Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by/caught-between hazards and related crush injuries from falling loads that were suspended by below the hood lifting devices (e.g. spreader bar). A)Dept. 30 - Yellow colored spreader bar marked as 15 ton capacity - As of 7/22/08 the spreader bar was not marked with safety warning data, serial number, name and address of the manufacturer and its weight (i.e. the weight of the device itself). The spreader bar was used in conjunction with a 15 ton crane. (Reference: ASME B30.20 Below the Hook Lifting Devices Section 20-1.2.1 (a) Marking and 20-1.2.1 (d) product safety labels) ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other Methods, Feasible and Acceptable means to correct the conditions noted above include marking the weight of the spreader bar on it, a serial number, name and address of the manufacturer and affixing product safety labels noted in ASME B30.20 Below the Hook LIfting Devices Section 20-1.2.1 (a) Marking and 20-1.2.1 (d) Product Safety labels).
