Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: the hazard of being struck with the freezer door, and/or sprain/strain hazard from opening the door: a) Near battery charging area The 6 foot wide x 9 foot tall freezer door was free standing against the freezer opening. Employees were required to physically open and close the door regularly. When the door was in the open position, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck with the door if it were to fall. Violation observed on or about 11/8/2005. Among other methods, one feasible means of abatement is to install a freezer door with the required track to allow safe opening and closing.
