Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire hazards while operating front end loading and pot carrying equipment which were not equipped with an internal fire suppression system: a)Slag Pit Area: On December 17, 2005 and at times prior, the employer did not protect the employees from fire hazards associated with slag explosions. Front end loaders and pot carriers were not equipped with an internal fire suppression system to protect the operators from a fire in the event of a slag explosion. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to equip front end loading and pot carrying equipment with an internal fire suppression system.sion
