Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by/crushing hazard from suspended loads: On or about 05/24/06, on the southeast side of the building, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by a load of approximately 10 cubic feet of soil that was suspended overhead, and was allowed by the employer to walk under the load. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is for the employer to prohibit employees from walking under suspended loads. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
