Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and/or crushed-by hazards: On or about April 19, 2006, at the Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions, Inc. plant in Garland, Texas, at least two employees, who had climbed on the support assembly of an unsupported/unsecured cooler to hitch the sling to the overhead crane block, were exposed to the hazards of falling and being crushed-by the cooler. Among other methods, at least two feasible means of abatement include but are not limited to (a) using a ladder when rigging the sling to crane block; and (b) support or brace the cooler to prevent it from tilting/overturning.
