Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to internal injuries, fractures, or death from possible collapse of roof, walls, building or structures: a) Entire Structure - The entire structure to include walls, roof and foundation were in danger of collapse. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have a structural engineer evaluate all structures and replace or reinforce defective roofs, building structures, and walls and to ensure that employees are not exposed to the hazards of potentially collapsing roofs, walls, buildings or structures.
