Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a fall hazard:
(a)Rear of building at 1684 South College St, Auburn, AL: On March 23,
2006 and
at times prior an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of 15 feet to
ground
from a metal prefabricated personnel platform that extended approximately
23
inches beyond the wheel base on each side of the Pettibone 636 (S/N 110683)
rough terrain forklift that supported the personnel platform. The
employee was
installing metal studs on the outside of the building.
Among other methods one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would
be to follow the
manufactures requirements, which reference ANSI B56.6 in that the floor
dimensions of the
personnel platform shall not exceed two times the load center distance
listed on the rough terrain
forklift nameplate, measured parallel to the longitudinal center plane of
the truck, nor have a
width greater than the overall width of the truck measured across the load
bearing tires plus 10
inches on either side.r
