Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an amputation hazard from an ingoing nip point. a) Conveyor from bread cooling rack to slicing machine - The conveyor was not equipped with emergency shutoffs. On or about 02/15/06. NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 AS PER 29 CFR 1903.19. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and useful abatement method would be to mount either an emergency pull cord along the length of the conveyor or emergency stop buttons at locations where employees are permanently stationed.
