Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads and/or lift parts: (a) Service bay area, for employees utilizing the Weaver 5500 (and related) vehicle lift to elevate vehicles for general maintenance and service where the lift was not properly secured to the service bay floor. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to follow the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM and/or ANSI B153.1 which include, specifications. 2.Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts. 3.Ensure all lifts are rated and marked with their load capacity. 4.Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
