North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard from an improperly secured trailer door: a)donations drive-up area, for the employees loading or unloading donations trailers, door was held open by an unsecured metal pole, exposing employees to a struck-by falling door hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install door struts as a mechanical assist when opening or closing the door and a securely fastened brace to support the door while in the opened position.
