Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about February 2, 2006, preventive maintenance had not been performed on the Unipress DLZ Double Legger Press, 9854609, in that the "cancel" button did not retract the pressing head to the open position when the button was depressed, exposing an employee performing pressing operations to the hazard of their degree burns. Among others, feasible and useful methods of abatement would be, (1)Read the instruction manual to the press and follow recommended preventive maintenance procedures. (2)Pull the valve spools out to the press and lubricate the O-rings. (3)Ensure that the "open" and "emergency stop" buttons are tested daily to ensure that the upper pressing head returns to the open position when it is depressed. (4)In the alternative, ensure that only qualified maintenance personnel perform adjustments and repairs listed in the instruction manual.tion
