North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)Emergency Medical Services, vehicle service area - the 125-volt electrical receptacles used to energize various tools and equipment were not equipped with Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupters (GFCI) to protect the employees. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to install Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupters (GFCI) in the all areas where ambulances and other vehicles are serviced. Reference: National Electric Code 1999, 511-10 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. All 125-volt single phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in areas where electrical diagnostic equipment, electrical hand tools, or portable lighting equipment are to be used shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.
