Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A fall hazard of 18 feet. At the 2747 Summit View worksite in San Antonio, Texas, employees were observed standing on a pallet and riding a vehicle mounted extensible and articulation boom (HIAB 335K) from a roof to the ground below. Employees were exposed to a fall hazard in excess of eighteen feet (18'). Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is would be to provide employees with a ladder of adequate length and to prohibit employees from riding the boom by complying with the Operators Manual, and/or ASME B30.22-2000.
