Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to serious fall hazards as a result of safe working procedures not being utilized: At the establishment - Forklift operators lift each other on the forks of the powered industrial trucks, on a pallet on the forks of a powered industrial truck and/or on the paper roll clamp attachment of a powered industrial truck to perform job duties such as but not limited to changing light bulbs or to clean scrap and debris from the blow pipe. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the current American National Standards Institute Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks, ASME B56.1-2000 and follow the precautions for the protection of personnel as listed. Abatement documentation is required for this in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
