Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: a. Receive serious injuries such as fracture due to fall from homemade ladder, at the establisment, storage area, north side. Was observed an employee using a homemade ladder without handrails, 68 inches hight above lower level to move merchandise. The ladder had 8 risers 28 inches long by 7 inches wide at 68 inches hight. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is eliminate these homemade ladders and replace it by a warehouse type ladder with hand rails. a. Recibir serias lesiones tales como fractura; debido a caida de escalera hecha en casa, en el establecimiento, area almacen, lado norte. Fue observado un empleado usando una escalera hecha en casa; sin pasamanos, 68 pulgs. alto sobre el nivel mas bajo para mover mercancia. La escalera tenia 8 escalones 28 pulgs. largo por 7 pulgs. ancho, a 68 pulgs. alto. Entre otros metodos, un metodo aceptable y posible de corregir este riesgo es eliminar esas escaleras hechas en casa, y reemplazarlas por unas escaleras tipo para almacen con pasamanos.
