Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and struck-by hazards: a) On or about 5/11/06, in the service area bay 2, employees were operating a Rotary 2-Post 9000 pound capacity lift that had inoperable safety latches and a broken safety release cable. b) On or about 5/11/06, in the service area bay 3, employees were operating a Rotary 2-Post 7000 pound capacity lift that had inoperable safety latches. c) On or about 5/11/06, in the service area at the alignment bay, employees operated a Hunter Parallelogram Lift Rack that utilized a bungee cord to secure the operating handle on the swing jack to prevent accidental activation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these hazards include conforming to the American National Standards Institute / Automotive Lift Institute Standard for Automotive Lift Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance, ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, sections 4, 5, and 6. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
