Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards from improperly rigged descent equipment: (a) Location - 29 Sawyer Road, (Brandeis University), Waltham, MA: On or about 5/30/06, employees were exposed to fall hazards of up to 40 feet while engaged in window-washing operations using improperly rigged descent equipment. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to correct this hazard is to set up window washing descent units in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and ANSI / IWCA 1-14.1.2001.
