North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)facility - where employees were allowed to use including, but not limited to, a Coffing, hook-type underhung 1 ton hoist that was used to lift pieces of equipment (approximately up to 800 lbs) and the hoist system was not inspected on a regular basis. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to conduct inspections of the hoist outlined in the standard. References: Reference ANSI B30.16-1981, Section 16-2.1.3: Periodic Inspection, Complete inspections of the hoist shall be performed at intervals as defined in 16-2.1.1(b)(2).
