Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a)Springfield and Plainfield Ave, Berkelety Heights, N.J.:Employees were standing on a unsecured pallet at a height of approximately 40 feet installing material on the building, exposing them to a fall. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among others, one suitable method of abating this hazardous condition is: 1. Utilize only platforms designed for elevating personnel with forklifts. These platforms must meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993 such as, but limited to fall protection for employees. 2. Train all employees about the hazards of falls associated with improper elevating methods, and the proper application and use of safety platforms. Violations observed on or about 8/5/06.d
