Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation and fracture from entanglement hazards in the auger system when it is detached from the Velati meat processing line when the equipment is in the washing mode.The employer failed to provide an emergency stop device(s) at each area where a cleanup employee was working. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to include, but not limited to, the following: Install stop devices to conform with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 79 Section 13.2 Emergency Stop Devices, that are readily accessible to employees from their work area during regular operations, washing mode and setup and service operations.
