Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to fall hazards while engaged in
tree trimming:
On or about 8/16/07 an employee was fatally injured while engaged in tree
trimming activities. The employee
was working from a stepladder and cutting a tree limb with a manually
powered pole saw.  The limb hinged
down and knocked the employee from the ladder striking his head on the
asphalt driveway.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is:
Attach a separate workline to limbs that cannot be dropped safely or
controlled by hand in accordance with
paragraph 8.2.5 of ANSI Z133.1-2006 For Arboricultural Operations-Safety
Requirements.
A.Use an aerial lift and cut the limbs into manageable lengths.
