Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of truss collapse. Location: A new building in construction for a school located at 2000 Lake Marion Creek Dr. in Poinciana, FL. Employees engaged in setting cold-formed steel roof trusses, were exposed to the hazards of falls and being struck-by falling trusses in that, adequate temporary bracing was not implemented to stabilize the trusses during erection, resulting in a major truss collapse, on or about July 06, 2006. Among others, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard would be to follow temporary bracing recommendations of the manufacturer, which are contained in the "Field Installation Guide for Cold-Formed Steel Roof Trusses" by the "Light Gauge Steel Engineers Association (LGSEA)" or the temporary bracing recommendations of a Registered Professional Engineer.
