Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls and/or crushing hazards: Warehouse - The employer did not ensure that the chain hoist material handling platform and related components were certified by a professional engineer before placing into service for hoisting furniture loads. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the following hazards is to have a qualified professional engineer determine that the material handling chain hoist platform and related components are in safe operating condition.
