Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:04/05/07 Location:Chemical Storage Equipment:Eyewash and Shower Equipment Condition:Employees transferred corrosive phosphoric acid 75a corrosive liquid into portable containers for transport to the plating and dipping areas. (b)Date of Violation:04/05/07 Location:Plating and dipping areas Equipment:Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment Condition:Employees were exposed to caustic and corrosive chemicals in dip tanks during plating operations. (c)Date of Violation:04/05/07 Location:Laboratory Equipment:Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment Condition:An employee was exposed to caustic and corrosive chemicals when performing assays of dip tank solutions. The proposed penalty for this item has been reduced by 50for effective and efficient abatement during the inspection. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1, "Emergency Eye Wash and Shower Equipment."
