Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from lowered vehicles, falling loads and/or lift parts: (a) Service bay area, for employees utilizing Forward two-post model 10S2 and Forward four-post model 12000LR lifts during automotive repair and maintenance operations and having exposure to potential crushing/struck-by hazards due to the safety features being overridden through the use of straps and/or bungee cords. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be for the employer to prohibit the use of bungee cords, and other equipment, to override the operational safety features of the automotive lifts.tive
