Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads and/or lift parts: (a) Service bay area, 1107 Third Avenue West, Dickinson, ND, for the employees who were exposed to potential crushing hazards while using Forward autolifts where the lifts had not been routinely inspected or annually serviced. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to follow the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000, which include, among other requirements: 1. Schedule and complete periodic and annual inspections. 2. Repair identified deficiencies from either lift operators or qualified lift inspectors. 3. Maintain documentation that indicates when a repair or maintenance procedure has been performed.
