Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to a caught between / or drowning
hazard when
operating mowers.
a) At the Golf Club employees were exposed to a caught between and/or
drowning
hazard when operating mowers on slopes, uneven terrain, in close proximity
to the edge
of drainage ponds, sand traps, around low lying limbs and other hazards.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods include:
1.Complying with ANSI B71.4-1999 for Consumer Turf Care Equipment-
Walk-Behind
Mowers and Ride-On Machines with Mowers-Safety Specification.
2 Following the manufacturer's operating instructions regarding inspection
of the mowing
area, establishing a safe mowing pattern, removing obstacles such as tree
limbs and
operating only in day light or good artificial light.cial
