Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injury due to inadequate automotive lift maintenance. (a)Waste Management of Colorado & 0062 County Road 113, Carbondale, CO 81632: On or before September 13, 2006, the employer had not developed and implemented completely the inspection and maintenance program that the particular Rotary Parallelogram lift operations manual required for use in the service area. The condition exposed employees to possible crushing injuries due to the potential for lift failure. The lift operations manual for this particular piece of equipment instructed that a certain maintenance schedule had to be followed. Among other optional methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to follow section 5.1, Periodic Qualified Inspection Procedures listed in the American National Standards Institute/Automotive Lift Institute ALOIM-2000, "Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance." Abatement Note: Paragraph 6.1.2 in the American National Standard Institute/Automotive Lift Institute publication number ALOIM-2000, lists the minimum requirements a preventative maintenance technician must possess prior to performing preventative maintenance on automotive lifts. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
