Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard: (a)All American Homes of Colorado LLC, at 3814 South County Road 5, Loveland, CO: On 2/27/07, All American Homes of Colorado LLC did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard. Employees were disassembling a two story tall modular home at the sales site of Northstar Homes Inc. Employees had removed a subsection's second story exterior walls and had lowered the subsection's roof onto three vertical supports. One employee was arranging lifting slings around the subsection of the home prior to lifting it with a crane onto a truck. The supports were constructed of wooden 2x6's and secured by nails. The support failed, causing the roof to collapse upon one worker. The employer did not ensure that the roof was adequately and securely supported. This condition exposed one employee to a struck by hazard. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to utilize an appropriate number of vertical metal beams to support the roof. The metal beams may be held in place with metal brackets secured to the structure with lag screws. Abatement Note: Training is to be provided to employees on proper installation of support members for the support of the roof or any other structure. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
