North Carolina General Duty Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) Facilitywide - Plumbed emergency eyewash units were not activated on a weekly basis to verify proper operation. REF:ANSI Z358.1-1998, Chapter 5, Paragraph 5.5.2 All eyewash units shall be inspected and maintained in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Plumbed equipment shall be activated weekly to verify proper operation. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to activate the plumbed emergency eyewash units on a weekly basis per the requirements of section 5.5.2 of ANSI Z358.1-1998.
