Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the potential for inhalation of ammonia:
On or before October 22, 2006, the company did not ensure that employees
operating and
performing inspections, tests, and servicing the ammonia refrigeration
system at U.S.
Foodservice such as unit EC-18, had written procedures and were trained in
the process,
operating and maintenance procedures for the system that included safety
and health hazards,
emergency operations, safe work practices, specific intervals of
inspections, tests and service
as established by either the manufacturer of equipment or industry
standards.
Among other methods, one suggested method of abatement is training of
employees on the
process, operating procedures, and maintenance procedures as developed per
paragraph 5.2.3
of Bulletin 110 of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration,
and, or the operating
manuals and recommendations of the manufacturers of the ammonia
refrigeration equipment.ion
