Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a)Second Floor Machine Shop - on or about December 31, 2007 - an employee was exposed to crushing injuries while installing base plates on an Acer Lathe. Employee did not follow the manufacturers procedures for lifting and installing this lathe. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT INCLUDE, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, FOLLOWING THE MANUFACTURERS PROCEDURES LISTED IN CHAPTER FOUR OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL, TITLED TRANSPORTATION AND INSTALLATION, WHICH LISTS PROPER LIFTING PROCEDURES FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.
