Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fall: Location: St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck, CT On or about January 16, 2007, an employee was cutting tree branches with a gas-powered chain saw from the elevated front-end loader/bucket of the 110 John Deere Backhoe, and the employee was exposed to the hazard of fall 7 feet to the ground. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to: 1. Prohibit employees from using the elevated front-end loader/bucket of a backhoe as a workstation. 2. Provide employees with appropriate tools and equipment for the tasks. 3. Utilize other feasible and available engineering technologies. 4. Follow the Manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. 0 0 $y 0 T
