Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the rotating blade:
a) Warehouse Area- On or about November 29, 2006, the equipment such as,
but not limited
to; the Jet #4 Horizontal Bandsaw was not equipped with a device to
prevent the saw's motor
from automatically restarting after power was restored following an
outage.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to include,
but not be limited to the following:
1) Provide a magnetic restarter or similar device as required by the
American National Standards
Institute (ANSI) B11.10-2003 Section 6.11, that in the event of an
interruption in the electrical
supply would prevent the saw from restarting automatically when power is
restored.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in
addition, documentation that abatement is complete must be included with
your
certification.  This documentation may include, but is not limited to,
evidence of the
purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of
abatement, or other
written records.
