Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to falling, crushing and struck-by hazards when performing precast erection: a)On July 9, 2007, Hardrock Structures, Inc., had not implemented a comprehensive rigging program that include provisions to ensure that all rigging materials were continously observed during lifting, with or without a load. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to ensure that the rigging practices outlined in ASME B30.9- 2003, Slings, are followed and to develop a comprehensive rigging program in accordance with with the Rigging Manual published by the Construction Safety Association of Ontario. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
