What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer is not
furnishing employment and a place of employment which is free from
recognized hazards
that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that
employees are exposed to the hazards of crushing injury from unstable
natural stone slabs
during slab transport operations: a)The employer failed to ensure that
proper slab handling
techniques were used to protect employees from crushing hazards. Employees
tasked with
removal and positioning of granite slabs were exposed to crushing hazards
during those
operations. During the transport operations, employees stood in the fall
shadow of the granite
slab to disconnect the clamp (pressure gripping lifters) used to transport
slabs. Among other
methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this
hazard is to institute
and enforce a policy in which employees use a device, which allows
employees to remotely
de-activate the holding clamp.
