a) ROUTER/PANEL SAW AREAS: THERE WERE TWO ENCLOSURSELESS DUST
COLLECTORS LOCATED INSIDE THE BUILDING WHICH WERE EXPOSING
EMPLOYEES AT NEARBY WORK STATIONS TO FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS.
b) MOLDER/PLANER/JOINTER/RIPSAW AREAS; THERE WERE TWO ENCLOSURELESS
DUST COLLECTORS LOCATED INSIDE THE BUILDING WHICH WERE NOT
SEPARATED BY AN ADEQUATE SAFE DISTANCE WERE EXPOSING EMPLOYEES TO
FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS.
c) EDGEBANDER/SANDER AREA: THERE WAS AN ENCLOSURELESS DUST
COLLECTOR LOCATED INSIDE THE BUILDING THAT WAS EXPOSING EMPLOYEES
AT NEARBY WORK STATIONS TO FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS.
NOTE; POTENTIAL DUST IGNITION SOURCES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT
LIMITED TO; STATIC SPARKS, EXCESSIVE HEAT BUILD-UP FROM CUTTING
HEADS/BLADES, MECHANICAL FAILURES, CUTTING HEAD/BLADE TIP FAILURES,
AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT FAILURES.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO RELOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION
SYSTEMS OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.
ANOTHER FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS
HAZARD WOULD BE TO ENSURE THAT ENCLOSURELESS DUST COLLECTORS
WHICH ARE USED INDOORS ARE INSTALLED IN A MANNER THAT MINIMIZES FIRE
AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS TO EMPLOYEES AT NEARBY WORK STATIONS AND
OTHER NEARBY ENCLOSURELESS DUST COLLECTORS.
