Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards by being struck by elevated vehicles falling from automotive lifts. The exposed employees who dismantle wrecked vehicles at the business were not provided with a formal, documented training program on the safe operation of automotive lifts.Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow the procedures outlined by ANSI/ALI ALOIM 2000- Standard for Automotive Lifts, Section 4, Operation paragraph 4.3. Written certification of abatement for this violation is required.
