Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm including serious burns, to employees, in that employees were exposed to dust explosion,deflagration, or other fire hazards from dust collectors being located inside a building: a) WAREHOUSE; A DUST COLLECTOR COLLECTING COMBUSTIBLE METAL IRON ALLOY DUSTS THAT ARE GENERATED IN THE POLISHING ROOM WAS LOCATED IN THE WAREHOUSE OF THE BUILDING. ABATEMENT NOTE: POTENTIAL IGNITION SOURCES INCLUDE STATIC SPARKS, SPARKS FROM TRAMP METAL, MECHANICAL FAILURES, HEAT/SPARKS FROM ABRASIVE WHEEL EQUIPMENT, AND ELECTRICAL FAILURES. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS TO COMPLY WITH THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION AGENCY (NFPA) 484, STANDARD FOR COMBUSTIBLE METALS (2006) INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO RELOCATING THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEMS OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND ENSURING IT IS EQUIPPED WITH APPROPRIATE DEFLAGRATION VENTING AND OTHER SAFEGUARDS TO PROTECT EMPLOYEES IN THE EVENT OF AN EXPLOSION.
