Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by structural I beams. (a) Location - 9 Hope Avenue, Waltham, MA: On or about 03/01/2007, employees were exposed to I beams falling onto them when base metal to be welded was not sufficiently prepared or inspected. Among other methods, feasible means of abatement include (1) Prepare and clean surfaces to be welded in accordance with AWS D1.1 (2) Follow the Lincoln operating guide on preparing a welded joint prior to welding.
