Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that caused or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of potential fire and explosion from the cyclone located inside the building without being designed to minimize damage that would occur in the event of an explosion. The Thermo-Former 15 grinder/cyclone collection system, used to collect combustible dust, did not have an explosion protection system. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 654 "Standard of the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosion from the Manufacturing, Processing and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids," 2006 edition; NFPA 68 "Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting," 2007 edition; NFPA 69 "Standard on Explosion Prevention System," 2008 edition. Install deflagration venting, to a safe location.
