Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that caused or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of potential fire and explosion from dust collectors, located inside facility, that were not designed to minimize damage that would occur in the event of a dust explosion inside the dust collectors. Located inside the building, there were two dust collectors that were not protected by containment, suppression, intering or explosion venting. a) The log saw dust collector was located inside the building lacking deflagration suppression system, blast panels or propagation isolation devices. b) The band saw dust collector was located inside the building lacking deflagration suppression, blast panels or propagation isolation devices. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT WITH HAZARD" is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 654 "Standard of the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosion from the Manufacturing, Processing and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids," 2006 edition, NFPA 69 "Standard on Explosion Prevention System" 2008 edition and NFPA 68 "Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting" 2007 edition. a) Equip dust collectors with deflagration venting, vented to a safe location outside. b) Install deflagration isolation device, to prevent explosion from propagating.
