Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to:
On or about May 14, 2007, employees performing roofing tasks were exposed
to the hazard
of falling approximately 40 feet when a Gradall rough terrain forklift was
used to raise a
work platform and the platform was not equipped with fall protection such
as a guardrail
system and/or a personal fall arrest system for each employee lifted.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to:
Ensure that the provisions of ASME B56.6-2002, Safety Standard For Rough
Terrain Forklift
Trucks, Section 5.15.1, are followed for protection of personnel lifted on
forklifts.
