Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the potential hazard of fire and explosion: (a)Production Area - The AGET dust collection system, model number FT-64-SP, used to collect class II plastic dust from the cutting of picture frames were located inside the building near the production area, on or about March 19, 2008. (b)Production Area - Air from the ducts collector was recycled back through the duct work back into the work area without the protection of a listed spark detection system(high speed abort gate), or isolation device such as but not limited to a back flash damper, on or about March 19, 2008. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible an acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 654), "Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions for the Manufacturing, Processing and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids" - 2006 as it applies to your operations and equipment including but not limited to: a.Locate the dust collection system outside the building or otherwise comply with the provisions of Section 7.13.1.1.2. b.Recycle exhaust air back into the building from dust collector in accordance with Section 8.2.2.6. c.Install an isolation device to prevent deflagration propagation from air- material separators upstream to the work areas. VERIFICATION REQUIRED
