Alaska Statute 18.60.075(a)(4)
(a) An employer shall do everything necessary to protect the life, health,
and
safety of employees including, but not limited to;
(4) furnishing to each employee employment and a place of employment that
are
free from recognized hazards that, in the opinion of the commissioner, are
causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the
employees.
Example:  An employee, doing work while standing on an 8 foot portable step
ladder, died as a result of injuries he received when he fell off the step
ladder.  This portable fiberglass step ladder had been damaged prior to
this
fall event.  The employer failed to ensure that this step ladder was
adequately repaired, prior to allowing the victim to use it.  Had the
victim
been trained in ladder safety, he would have used a taller ladder to access
the work.s
