Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
a) On or about December 1, 2006 employees were exposed to crushing
injuries while loading
and/or unloading the Genie AWP-36 scissors lift by means of rolling the
unit in the upright
position on or off the transport vehicle by means of portable ramps. One
means of abatement
would be instructing and ensuring that employees manually loading the
equipment do so in
accordance with Genie AWP Super Series operators manual by positioning the
lift against the
loading surface of the transfer vehicle, locking the casters on the lilt
back frame, using the T-
Handle to tilt the unit onto the loading surface of the transport vehicle
and pushing it onto the
loading surface and reversing the process to unload.
