P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970: The employer
did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of falling through the top of the
hood covering
serpentine rollers dryer system:
A) #16 paper machine - Employees were allowed to walk on the panels that
made up the top of
the After Dryer Hood. The hood covered the serpentine rollers dryer system
and was not
designed to support employee(s) standing or walking on it.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to
barricade the top of
the After Dryer Hood off so that no one can access the top of the After
Dryer Hood.
