Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: At the jobsite on or about 08/22/07, the employer allowed a well head scanalog unit to be used by employees without securing it to the blow out preventer (B.O.P.). The employees were exposed to the type of hazards associated with struck by. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to assure the well head scanalog unit is secured to the B.O.P. with well head studs and nuts in accordance with Tuboscope National Oilwell Varco, Volume II - Used Pipe, Standard Operating Procedure, Wellhead Scaning (WHS) Unit, number 11-501, effective dated April 1, 2007.
