Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls and/or crushing hazards: Assembling Room #1 - The employer did not ensure that the material Hoist and related components were certified by a professional engineer before placing into service for lifting wood products to the second floor. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the following hazards is to have a qualified professional engineer determine that the material hoist and related components are in safe operating condition.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to lacerations: Woodworking Shop - Employees were exposed to lacerations from broken glass on the lower awning window and a sharp edged metal plate on the right side of the drum sander. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to ensure that all windows and machine attachments are checked daily for defects.
