Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard while driving on a metal decking that exceeded the maximum platform capacity of an aerial lift: a)2701 Bergen Mall, Paramus NJ: An employee was exposed to a fall hazard while operating a JLG Aerial lift over an unpoured metal decking, on or about 6/16/2008. ABATEMENT METHOD: Among the other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees follow safe work practices as recommended in the JLG Operation and Safety Manual (page 1-7) and keep the chassis of the machine at least 2 feet from holes, bumps, drop-offs, obstructions, debris, concealed holes and other potential hazards on the floor surface.
